DIY Mondays: Button Bracelets!

This afternoon was “DIY Monday,” part of the Carmel Clay Public Library’s “Today in the YA Lounge” series of kicking-back-after-school activities for teens.   Jennifer showed everyone how to make button bracelets using buttons that had been donated by library staff.

“How would you describe your bracelets?” I asked the teens who had finished.
Jubulent!”

I have to agree:

There were a lot of people making bracelets, but not all of them wanted to have their picture taken for this blog. I always ask first and respect the answers. Some days I don’t feel like getting my picture taken for the Internet, either.
On the other hand, I appreciate the people who did let me take their picture because now I have another photo of people having fun at the library! In any case, I was delighted by ALL of the people who stopped by the YA lounge today.
Jennifer showed everyone a page from this book – Junk Jewelry: 25 Extraordinary Designs to Create from Ordinary Objects, by Jane Eldershaw (Potter Craft 2008) – as she demonstrated how to make the bracelets. The illustrations were very helpful.
DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Mondays are usually the third Monday of each month, from 4:30-5:30. Supplies and snacks are provided by the Friends of the Carmel Clay Public Library, so there is no charge to teens. You don’t have to sign up ahead of time either. Just come!
The next DIY Monday in the YA Lounge will be “Design Your Own Maze” on Monday, April 14, 2010. Maybe I’ll see you there? (I promise I'll give you a chance to scoot away if you don't want to be in the photo.)
Hope
