Mazes and Bug House

The Young Adult Lounge of the Carmel Clay Public Library here in Carmel, Indiana has been JUMPIN' this summer!
A teen named Tulsi was the guest presenter last week for “DIY Monday,” which is part of our “Today in the YA Lounge” series. Tulsi taught other teens and YA staff members how make their own mazes.

She had even prepared a handout for each person:

Everyone had a great time. Here are some nearly-finished mazes:

Meanwhile, in another part of the YA lounge, several other people were playing “Bug House,” a kind of double-boarded version of chess. Chess sets and a variety of other board games are available for play in the YA lounge whenever the library is open.

Jig saw puzzles are available, too. This one is almost complete:

There was an informal discussion of fantasy books during “Book Discussion Thursday” last week, too, but I didn’t get a photo of that. Sorry!
The next program in the “Today in the YA Lounge” series was the “DIY Monday” event this past Monday. Check back for fun photos from that event here on the reads4teens.org blog next week. In the meantime, here is the sample that Jamie made:

Is it not cute?
There is no charge for any of the “Today in the YA Lounge” programs. Supplies and snacks are paid for by the Friends of the Carmel Clay Public Library.
And by the way…More than 1000 teens have registered in the Carmel Clay Public Library’s 2010 Young Adult Summer Reading Program! It runs through Tuesday, August 3, 2010, so if you live in the Carmel, Indiana (USA) area and have not signed up yet, there is still plenty of time. Sign up online at www.carmelreads.org.
See you at the library!
Hope
