The Book That Did It For You

The other day, a man told me that his teenaged daughter hates to read. "I hated to read, too, when I was a kid," he told me. "But now I love it. Do you have any suggestions for books for her? I would hate for her to miss out for as long as I did."
I was curious. "What book turned things around for you?" I asked him.
He named a particular book, but added that now he reads a wide variety of books. He also said that if he starts a book and it doesn't interest him, he sets it aside and tries a different book. We agreed: recreational reading is supposed to be FUN.
That conversation made me curious about other people. If you hated to read when you were younger, what book turned things around for you?
And if you have always loved reading, do you remember the first book you loved?
Hope
