Twilight
Author: Stephanie meyer
Bibliographic Information: Published 2005, 498 pages
Genre/Subject: Romance, Grades 7-up
Call number: HS

What was it about?

A girl moves to the city of Forkes and meets a vampire. She falls in love with him, but soon vampires from another town come to visit. The good vampire family tries to keep the girl away from them. But he ends up getting her, she is saved at the last minute by Edward.

Love it or hate it? Why?

Love it because it is written very well, and is about a romance that is supposed to be impossible. Very suspensful.

What grade would you give this book?

A+++++++++++++++++

Any other comments?

I highly recommend it. Every friend I give the book to, loves it! Best book ever, can read it over and over!

I can't put it down
"Usually I can just take my time reading a book, but with Twilight I find my not able to put it down. Like Edward craves Bella, I crave Twilight." -- asqwerty from indiana, 7/17/2010

Well...
"Well Elenasia, you are being kind of harsh. Bella is just a woman in love and Edward can hardly be blamed for giving into his primal desires. It's just his nature. Seriously." -- SanchinaHighEmp from Carmel, 11/21/2009

i totes agree
"i thought that the story was a little to predictable too. when i read it i thought it was too dark. brought me down. i'm just not into that stuff. the romance was so ordinary." -- Sarah Moxham from Library, 7/14/2009

It was okay
"I'm with ZombiEliz. This book was good because of the storyline and all. I guess it was sort of a romantic story, but what ruined it is the likelyhood of a vampire falling in love with a human. I like the whole idea, but Stephenie Meyer just didn't illusrtate the way that edward fell in love with bella that well. I doubt you'd see Dracula fall in love with Angelina Jolie just because her blood smells inexorably "tasty"." -- phlsphfetish99 from Indiana, 6/13/2009

Twilight is the greatest book but worst movie
"this is such a great book, I've wanted to read it like five times but my sister always has it!!! I so happy that New Moon is coming into theaters soon. It will probably be a lot better than the Twilight movie. The movie was not very good and it was nothing like the book. Hopefully New Moon will be better!" -- burskyburr from indiana, 6/4/2009

Twilight Rules!!!!
"I love this book and I am addicted to the series. Edward Cullen is a great character...I am team Edward all the way. This series is just so captivating, Stephenie illustrates this story so well. -- A reader from Carmel IN, 6/1/09 " -- Katkh2004 from Indiana, 6/1/2009

I'm still with ZombiEliz...
"Definately not a great book. Honestly, it's an abusive relationship - personally, I don't care to have my boyfriend standing over me as I sleep, nor do I think he would have a right to dictate who my friends are. Edward is a bit of a sissy, too. Vampires, by very definition, cannot be good. They are intrinsically evil - they exist only by cannibalism. Also, I very much disagree with Carlyle's actions in this series - there is a big difference between death and not being able to die..." -- shakespearegeek from Indiana, 6/1/2009

Burn it!
"Twilight is a huge epic fail. Bella Swan is a Mary Sue. The Edward and Bella love is unreal. They never had a connection, in my thoughts. Bella just fell inlove with his looks and Edward just fell inlove with the "interesting" smell of her blood." -- ZombiEliz from Puerto Rico, 5/29/2009

summary error!
"Bella doesn't move to Oregon she moves to Forks, Washington!!!! maybe some people need to read more carefully! Anyone who reads this will picture the wrong thing if they decide to get the book from this reccomendation! Which ruins the entire story she moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington. Got it! good. " -- A reader from Arizona, 6/14/2007

twilight is the best book in the universe!!!!
"Twilight is the best book in the whole entire universe!!!!!! All of it just seems so real to me! I love bella and edward, they rock! " -- A reader from pluto, 6/14/2007

Irresistibly Gripping!
"In her writing, Stephenie Meyer gives you the ability to not only read the story, but also to see the image of what you are reading. I have read many books, more than I can count, and Twilight blows the rest of the books out of the water. I'm an avid Harry Potter fan, and Twilight even gives J.K. Rowling a run for her money. Vampires are usually not my thing, but so many people have told me how much they enjoyed Twilight that I had to try it out. So I started reading and fell in love at the first word. Meyer captures your attention with the first page drawing you into the life of Bella Swan, the main character and also narrator. You, the reader, starts off confused, wondering what everyone's saying about there being vampires, it iss about her ordinary life moving to a small town, Forks. This belief that we have of Bella as a normal girl is what causes us to relate to her and want to continue reading to discover her story. Meyer gets you thinking and believing there is nothing special about Bella; however, this belief is soon diminished. At lunch at her new school she sees five beautiful beyond belief people sitting at their own table, and she can't understand why she needs to keep looking at them. At this point, the reader realizes that something is different, Bella's perfectly ordinary life is going to be twisted upside down. This book, which I was reluctant to read at first, turned into an intense love story full of drama, action, adventure, and most of all romance. I couldn't put it down. It's not just what is happening that leaves you breathless, it's the way Meyer's writes. She skillfully describes the color of Edward Cullen's eyes when he's mad or happy, the coldness of his face, the sparkling of his skin when he's in the sun and most of all, how Bella reacts to these things. Meyer expresses how Bella's heart pounds when Edward kisses her. The way when he holds her close to him, although he's cold as ice and hard as granite, she doesn't want to be anywhere else. The clarity that Meyer writes with shows that she knows exactly how to keep us on our toes. “Bella: I was stunned by the unexpected electricity that flowed through me, amazed that it was possible to be more aware of him than I already was.” (Meyer 219) The ironic way Meyer writes having Bella gradually unveil Edward Cullen's identity as a vampire keeps us flipping the pages. The initial intrigue of the first time she sees him in the lunchroom. Then the renewed friendship of old family friend Jacob Black forms. He tells her the supposedly crazy legend his ancestors tell, about how the “bloodsuckers” came and used to attack their land. The pieces just fall together for Bella, “About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn't know how dominant that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.” The fact that she isn't one bit afraid baffles me. The mysterious question that we as readers ask is, “How can Bella not be afraid of loving a vampire?” It's very peculiar and somewhat unbelievable. The other unusual thing about Twilight is the type of vampires the Cullens are. Who would have thought, nice vampires? Those do not even exist in my imagination. Meyer's idea of vampires living a peaceful life makes Twilight a whole different type of story . It is mind-boggling and unusual, but that's what makes it enticingly captivating. Little by little alongside Edward and Bella's romance story and adventure, there are little references of the history of the vampires and how they came to be. Gradually we are able to understand and somewhat start to make sense of all that is happening. The fact that Bella is able to simply accept what the Cullens tell her about their “vampire lifestyle” develops intrigue and suspense in us as the readers. We're watching and waiting to see how long everything can last. The love story between Bella and Edward is a common irresistible desire of all readers, sweeping us off our feet with danger and romance. Meyer did a fantastic job on this book; it holds us captive in Forks, and makes us never want to leave. Twilight is more than just a love story; it is a story of the choices between life and death.
